Bail plea of judge couple rejected in dowry harassment case
Tikamgarh (MP): Anticipatory bail plea of a judge couple and their son in a dowry harassment case was rejected by a local court here.
District and Sessions Judge Uday Singh Behrawat rejected the anticipatory bail application of retired judge Purshottam Bhatt, his wife, Meena Bhatt and their son Siddharth yesterday.
The family had approached the court after Jatara police in the district registered cases against them under various sections on the directions of Madhya Pradesh high court.
While Purshottam has retired, his wife Meena is a judge in the family court at Jabalpur.
Siddharth was married to one Meenu on July 5, 2006 and since then the Bhatts had been harassing her for dowry.
On April 5, 2009 the Bhatts called Meenu's father Jagat Narayan Sharma to Jabalpur and demanded Rs three lakh from him and threatened him to implicate in false case if he failed to pay.
Following this, Jagat Narayan committed suicide on April 9 that year and later the case was pursued by his brother Manoj Sharma with Madhya Pradesh high court which directed the Jatara police to register a case against Bhatts.
